WTI crude surged past $100/barrel in early April, driven by the Middle East conflict and Strait of Hormuz disruption. For Ecuador, it's a double-edged sword: oil exports bring in more revenue, but the fuel band system passes the pain directly to consumers at the pump.
Gasoline and diesel prices in Ecuador are expected to increase approximately 5% when the monthly band adjustment takes effect on April 12. Extra and ecopais gasoline currently at $2.89/gallon and diesel premium at $2.82/gallon are being pushed higher by WTI crude above $100/barrel.
EP Petroecuador reported field production of approximately 370,000 barrels per day in January 2026, with the Sacha and Auca blocks leading output. While below peak levels, the steady numbers support government revenue forecasts and reduce the risk of mid-year austerity cuts.
