2. Order of cédulación issued

The order is the bridge between MREMH and Registro Civil. If it is missing, follow up with the authority or professional who handled the visa; do not simply turn up hoping the office can find it.

3. Appointment requested with Registro Civil

Registro Civil’s official guidance for foreign residents is to request service by email at extranjeros@registrocivil.gob.ec. Include the order’s date of issue, the agency you prefer, and a telephone number. The agency validates the request and assigns the appointment.

4. Documents taken to the appointment

Bring the original passport or identity document used for the visa, your visa record, the order of cédulación, and proof of payment if required. Bring your old cédula for a renewal. Take paper copies as a practical backup.

5. Biometric capture and card issue

At Registro Civil you will have your information checked, fingerprints captured, photo taken, and signature recorded. Inspect the finished cédula immediately for spelling and date errors.
