Ecuador's Registro Civil is adding a permanent Saturday service window at selected offices, giving residents another option for identity and civil-registry errands.
The new schedule begins Saturday, June 20, 2026, and applies to 14 agencies in 11 provinces. Saturday hours will run from 08:00 to 17:00.
Services Listed For Saturdays
The Saturday service list includes:
- Cedulas
- Passports
- Marriages
- Certificates
- Birth registrations
- Death registrations
- Other regular Registro Civil procedures
Cedulas and passports are listed as available without a prior appointment, with direct payment at the agency. Monday-to-Friday service continues at all agencies nationwide, while Saturdays begin with the selected 14 offices.
Ottón Rivadeneira, general director of Registro Civil, said many people work during the week or have difficulty reaching agencies during traditional hours, and the new schedule responds to that request.
What This Means For Expats
For foreign residents, the practical item is the cedula. If your weekdays are packed, a Saturday slot may make the process easier, especially for people managing work, family schedules or travel between cities.
This is also worth watching if you help family members, employees or household staff with paperwork. The first phase is limited to selected offices, so check the specific agency before assuming Saturday service is available where you live.
