July is not a national holiday month in Ecuador, but Guayaquil has one local exception.
Guayaquil will observe a local holiday on Friday, July 24, tied to the city’s July civic festivities.
Who Gets The Day Off
The holiday applies locally to people who work or study in Guayaquil canton and its rural parishes: Juan Gómez Rendón, Posorja, El Morro, Tenguel, and Puná.
It does not extend to nearby cantons such as Durán, Daule, or Samborondón.
Why It Moves To Friday
Guayaquil’s civic date is traditionally July 25. Because that date falls on a Saturday this year, the holiday is moved to the prior Friday, creating a three-day weekend with Saturday, July 25, and Sunday, July 26.
What This Means For Expats
If you live in or travel through Guayaquil, expect local schedule changes around public offices, schools, and some businesses on Friday, July 24.
For everyone else in Ecuador, the next national holiday is Monday, August 10, for the First Cry of Independence.
