Ecuadorian risk officials are monitoring high-energy waves arriving from the southwest Pacific toward the country's continental and island coasts.

The waves are exceeding 2.5 to 3 meters.

Areas With Impacts

Impacts are affecting Galapagos and several coastal areas of Santa Elena, including:

  • Puerto Chanduy
  • Libertador Bolivar
  • Montanita
  • Olon
  • Escollera de La Libertad
  • Mar Bravo

In Puerto Chanduy, two boats were destroyed. On the road to Mar Bravo in Salinas, cleanup work was carried out after debris accumulated.

Galapagos park authorities asked visitors to stay only in enabled areas and take special precautions during high tide because access toward Playa Mansa could be temporarily affected.

What This Means for Expats

If you live on the Coast or are visiting beach towns this week, take ocean conditions seriously even if the sky looks fine.

Avoid rocks, jetties, exposed shorelines and informal boat trips during high-energy wave periods. In Galapagos, follow park access limits closely, especially around high tide.
