Ecuador's National Transit Agency (ANT) has temporarily suspended the issuance of Ecuadorian driver licenses abroad.
The agency says the pause is part of an institutional-strengthening process focused on control, verification and security in the issuance of driving documents.
Why It Matters
The ANT says it is implementing mechanisms to reinforce license-issuance security.
The timing follows a 2026 corruption investigation at the agency. Prosecutors and police raided the ANT earlier this year in the case known as Jaque, which led to the removal of former director Pedro Abril, who remains detained.
What This Means for Expats
If you are outside Ecuador and planned to handle an Ecuadorian license process through consular or external channels, expect delays until the ANT restores the service.
If you are in Ecuador, this does not automatically mean local license services are suspended. But it is a reminder to verify requirements directly before paying an intermediary or relying on an appointment rumor.
