Ecuador Prosecutor’s Office Explains What Internet Scam Victims Should Do

Ecuador's Prosecutor's Office has issued a practical guide for people who have been victims of internet scams.

What To Gather First

The first step is to collect all available evidence. That includes:

  • Payment receipts
  • Screenshots of conversations
  • Details of the bank account involved
  • Any other information connected to the transaction

Where To Report

After collecting evidence, the victim should go to the Prosecutor's Office to file a complaint for fraud.

The person should also inform the financial institution involved and ask for assistance.

Cost And Documents

To file the complaint, the only required document is the cédula de identidad.

The Prosecutor's Office says hiring a lawyer is not necessary and the process is free.

What This Means For Expats

If you get hit by an online scam in Ecuador, do not delete the chat or payment trail in frustration. Preserve everything first, then report it. The evidence package is the part you control.
