Ecuador's June sun is not messing around.
Primicias reports that INAMHI said at least 24 Ecuadorian cities face very high ultraviolet radiation on June 1, 2026.
The warning comes as the agency forecasts high temperatures in parts of the Coast and Sierra during the first days of June.
What Very High UV Means
Primicias reports that a UV index from 8 to 10 is considered very high under World Health Organization parameters.
The outlet quotes the WHO guidance that extra precautions are needed because unprotected skin and eyes can be damaged and burn quickly.
INAMHI's alert includes very high UV in provinces such as Esmeraldas, Guayas, Santa Elena, Azuay and Loja.
Pichincha and Imbabura are listed among provinces with extremely high UV.
Hours To Watch
Primicias reports the strongest radiation window is from 10:00 to 15:00.
The same article reports that temperatures in Guayaquil, Santa Elena and Machala may exceed 35 C, while parts of the Sierra such as Quito may exceed 27 C.
The temperature warning remains active until 17:00 on June 3.
INAMHI also said the current forecast can favor forest fires.
What This Means For Expats
Do the simple stuff: hat, sunglasses, sleeves, sunscreen and shade during the middle of the day.
If you are in the Sierra, remember that cooler air does not mean weaker UV. If you are on the Coast, the heat and the UV can stack up fast.
