Ecuador's heat and wind alert is not just a one-day issue.

Inamhi says intense heat will continue at least through July 11 in several areas of the Sierra and Coast. The alert was issued on July 7.

From July 8 to 11, higher daytime temperatures and wind gusts are expected in the Interandean region and the central-southern Coast. Those conditions could favor forest fires.

Where The Heat Is Expected

The strongest temperature increase is expected on Wednesday, July 8, and Thursday, July 9.

Quito and Guayaquil are among the cities expected to be affected by the heat. Important temperature increases are also expected in Carchi, Imbabura, and Pichincha, plus central areas of Cotopaxi and Tungurahua and northern Chimborazo.

In Azuay, the heat increase is expected in part of the south near the Loja border. On the Coast, Guayaquil and other areas of Guayas are expected to have very high temperatures, as is almost all of El Oro.

What This Means For Expats

For residents, the practical issue is exposure and fire risk. The alert points to low humidity and dry air masses, which can make outdoor heat feel harsher and can raise the risk of fires in vulnerable areas.

If you are traveling between regions this week, especially between the Sierra and Coast, plan around heat, wind, and sun exposure rather than assuming normal July weather.
