Ecuador's expired-driver-license grace period is almost over.
The Agencia Nacional de Transito, or ANT, says expired licenses can be used only until June 30, 2026. After that date, expired licenses will no longer be valid for driving, and the agency says there will be no new extensions or exceptions.
Extra Renewal Hours
The ANT announced special Saturday service on June 20 and June 27, from 08:00 to 16:00.
The special service is for people who already have license-renewal appointments scheduled after June 30. Those drivers can go to the same agency where they booked their appointment, with the printed appointment and all legal renewal requirements, to try to move the process forward.
The grace period existed because the ANT was closed between February and March 2026.
What This Means for Expats
If your Ecuador license is expired, do not assume a later appointment keeps you legal after June 30. The key distinction is between having a renewal appointment and having a valid license.
If you drive in Ecuador and your license is expired, check your appointment date now. If it falls after June 30, the Saturday service may be your best chance to avoid a gap.
