Ecuador Businesses Asked to Use Generators Voluntarily as the Dry Season Begins

Electricity distributors have been coordinating voluntary use of private generators by industries and shopping centers, according to reporting updated Wednesday evening. The arrangements involve agreeing on hours and conditions with individual businesses, rather than the report establishing a general instruction for households to disconnect.

In Quito shopping centers, staff described temporary interruptions around 7 p.m. as generators took over, including disruption to payment systems. The energy ministry had not provided a response by the report’s publication deadline. That leaves an important distinction for residents: a commercial property switching power sources is not, by itself, a confirmed neighborhood outage notice.
